Clostridioides difficile often causes prolonged hospitalization of patients infected with the bacterium and it is the common culprit of epidemic outbreak in large hospitals. Patients infected with Clostridioides difficile may be asymptomatic or suffer mild diarrhea and even serious pseudomembranous colitis.
