Introduction

 

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also called sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or venereal diseases, are contagious infections caused by pathogens (bacteria, virus, parasite) and are characterized by transmission from person to person through sexual activity and intimate contact.

Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis), commonly known as chlamydia, is a bacterium that causes chlamydia, which can manifest in various ways, including: trachoma, lymphogranuloma venereum, nongonococcal urethritis, cervicitis, salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease. Chlamydia is a genus of pathogenic bacteria that are obligate intracellular parasites and includes three human biovars. There are over 15 serovariants of C. trachomatis, four of which are implicated in ocular infection (serovariants A, B, Ba, and C), three of which can cause sexually transmitted lymphogranuloma (subtypes L1, L2, and L3). The D-K type causes non-gonococcal urethritis.

The bioPerfectus Technologies Chlamydia Trachomatis (CT) Real-Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, for the detection of C. trachomatis nucleic acids via samples from clinical male urethral swab or female cervical swab. Specific primers and probes are designed based on specific gene areas of Chlamydia trachomatis and human β-globin gene (internal control).
