Introduction
Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe and often fatal illness affecting humans and other primates. Ebola virus can be transmitted to humans from wild animals and subsequently spread through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals, as well as contaminated surfaces and materials. Case fatality rates have ranged from 25% to 90% in past outbreaks.
The BioPerfectus Ebola Virus Real Time PCR Kit is a research-use real-time PCR assay for the qualitative detection of Ebola virus RNA, including Zaire, Sudan, Bundibugyo, and Taï Forest viruses, in human throat swabs, serum, and tissue exudate specimens.
