Be cautious: New COVID-19 variant "Omicron" spreads to more countries

Scientists in South Africa on November 24, 2021, identified a concerning new variant of the coronavirus, whose mutations mark a "big jump in evolution" that is driving a spike in new cases. Hours later, Britain banned flights from six southern African nations, citing the variant. Later this variant was also detected in Botswana, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, Australia, Germany, France, Switzerland, UK, Netherlands, Canada, Demark, Austria, Czech Republic, and Belgium…

The variant Omicron, also known as B.1.1.529, is primarily of concern due to the large number of mutations it has in the Spike gene. Many of these variants are in the binding receptor-binding domain and N-terminal domain, and thus may play key roles in ACE2 binding and antibody recognition, which might help it evade vaccines and make it more contagious.

As previously announced by Bioperfectus, our PCR reagents products including (COVID–19 Coronavirus Real Time PCR Kit, COVID–19 Coronavirus (ORFlab/N/E) Real Time PCR Kit, COVID–19 Coronavirus and Influenza A/B Virus Real Time PCR Kit) stay effective in face of this new SARS-CoV-2 variant, B1.1.529.

At present, Bioperfectus has completed the data monitoring of all the mutant strains of SARS-CoV-2, Including Alpha (UK B.1.1.7), Beta (South Africa B.1.351), Gamma (Brazil P.1), Delta (India B.1.617.1, AY.1, AY.2, AY.3), Zeta (Brazil P.2), Eta (Britain/Nigeria B.1.525) Lambda (Peru C.37) and Fin-796H (Finland), N.9, B.1.616 (France), Epsilon B.1.1.529+ B.1.427 (USA), and P.3 (Theta Philippines), Mu (B.1.621).

The results of in silico analysis, pseudo-virus synthesis, and experimental verification on mutation sites confirmed that all Bioperfectus COVID-19 Real-time PCR reagents: COVID–19 Coronavirus Real-Time PCR Kit, COVID–19 Coronavirus (ORFlab/N/E) Real-Time PCR Kit, and  COVID–19 Coronavirus and Influenza A/B Virus Real-Time PCR Kit show no drop off in specificity, accuracy, and sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 detection, and it will not miss the target and the detection for the above variant strains.

Bioperfectus Total COVID-19 Molecular Solution will make double assurance to the global pandemic fight. The solution provides validated systems which consist of nucleic acid extraction and PCR kit and compatible instruments. With different throughput instruments, the solution could meet various sample size detection demands. Using this solution, laboratories will get accurate results for COVID-19 samples with no missing known variants.

As the global pandemic remains severe and complicated, Bioperfectus is always following all variants of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases outbreak all around the world. Our R&D works to provide all diagnostic solution and will release new products once it fulfills the clinical and regulatory requirements.
