Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. It affects humans and animals and is most commonly found in temperate or tropical climates. Leptospiras are found in a wide variety of animal species, primarily rats and pigs, which may continue to excrete bacterium into the environment continuously. Millions of people are infected each year worldwide, but information and treatment can be limited.
Mild cases may have a self-limited fever, while severe cases may present with the symptoms of acute inflammatory liver injury and kidney injuries, such as jaundice, hemorrhage, and uremia, or symptoms of meningitis, such as altered consciousness and meningeal irritation signs, with the most severe form being a hepatic and renal failure, massive pulmonary haemorrhage, or even death.
The BioPerfectus Leptospira Real Time PCR Kit replying on fluorescent PCR technology, is intended for the qualitative detection of Leptospira DNA in human whole blood or urine samples.
